I'm Ashish Rao, a backend engineer based in Pune, India.

I've been building products and infrastructure since 2020, working across startups like Colearn, Artos Software, and Superlinear Insights, with earlier experience at Postman and Hasura.

NOW

Currently, I'm building iot and homelab. When I'm not coding, you'll find me reading (currently: Norwegian Wood) or exploring new ideas.

WHAT I DO

What genuinely excites me is infrastructure work. I run a self-healing homelab with Prometheus monitoring and Grafana dashboards. I built a real-time car telemetry system (ESP32, MQTT, TimescaleDB) because I wanted deeper insights than any OBD app could give. When I needed to control smart plugs programmatically, I reverse-engineered the KLAP protocol and published a Ruby gem.

I work in Go, Ruby, and Python for backend services, with a focus on observability, distributed systems, and IoT architectures. I write about what I build, contribute to open source projects that interest me, and prefer owning the full stack—from hardware to cloud—when it means better learning and control.

I'm comfortable working remotely and asynchronously, and I'm always up for interesting technical problems. If you're building something that involves backend infrastructure, distributed systems, or making disparate systems talk to each other reliably—let's chat.
